Mixer

The Swiss army knife of splitter and mixer rack effect modules

The Mixer routing rack effect module allows splitting and/or mixing signals.  Bass players can split their dry signal, sending some to an effects loop, then mixing the wet and dry signals to taste.

Description

We know that spending money on modules that just route your signal from Point A to Point B isn't very exciting.  It's a lot more interesting to get new effects instead.  When we design routing and utility circuits, we try to add some extras so that the result isn't a one-trick pony thats trick may not always be useful.  The Mixer module is an example of a multi-purpose module.

It has a single input.  That input gets split and sent to two loops, A and B.  The returns of the two loops are then blended together with an adjustable mix ratio and volume and an optional phase correction is applied before sending the combined result to the single output.  The whole thing is switched or bypassed together, with an override option to keep it always on without using up a footswitch.

You can use it for multiple purposes.  You can use it as an A/B splitter.  Input goes into the Input jack and the split outputs come out the Send jacks.

You can use it as an A/B Mixer.  Inputs go into the Return jacks and the mixed output comes out the Output jack.

You can use the splitter and mixer separately by doing both of the above.

You can use it to mix the input signal with a copy of the input signal that has gone out to a loop and come back.  That is particularly interesting to bass players, as it allows you to mix some dry signal with an effect signal.  Maybe you have an effect that doesn't sound so great with bass.  Perhaps if you mix a little of the effected signal with some dry signal it will sound much better.  That is what some guitar pedals do for their bass version.  But check out the Mudslinger module to get a more sophisticated version of that functionality.

Sometimes when you mix something with an effected version of itself, some effect in the loop might change the phase of the signal, causing the mix to sound bad.  The Mixer has a phase switch that can remedy that situation.  Those are some of the options.
